It is a moment of deep shame for our nation that Prosecutor General Shim Woo Jung and the prosecution have abandoned their duty, choosing not to appeal despite the clear and reasonable objections of the Special Investigation Team. This is not a legal decision — it is a betrayal, a surrender to the forces that threaten the very fabric of our democracy. The prosecution has turned its back on the people, opting instead to serve the will of a traitor.
Even more appalling is the behavior of President Yoon Seok Yul, who, upon his release, chose to step out of the car and raise his fist in front of his supporters. In this dramatic and provocative gesture, he continues to defy the reality of his situation — that he remains a criminal suspect facing charges related to treason. His actions today serve only to further divide and destabilize a country already on the edge.
This is no ordinary day. It is a day when the institutions meant to safeguard the rule of law have failed. A day when the leader of a failed coup, emboldened by the acquiescence of the very institutions tasked with upholding justice, continues to stir the flames of division. His words and actions are a call to arms for his supporters, inciting them to further lawlessness. We now face a grave risk — that the forces of treason will continue to grow in strength and intensity, threatening not just the rule of law, but the very unity of our nation.
Yet, despite the dark clouds hanging over us, the Democratic Party of Korea, alongside the people of Korea, will not abandon hope. We will await the Constitutional Court’s decision, for it is only through swift and decisive action that the rule of law can be restored. The removal of Yoon Seok Yul from office is not just a political necessity — it is a moral imperative.
Today is a day of infamy for Korea, but it is also a day that will pass. The path forward is clear. We must stand firm, demand accountability, and ensure that the forces of treason and division are held in check. The future of our democracy depends on it.
